Test For Employee Fitness
Drug tests check for drugs. Alcohol tests check for alcohol. But impairment may have many causes. Most cannot be determined with multiple tests. Marijuana, for instance, remains in your system for at least three weeks and for virtually all of that time has no impairing effect. A test for its presence is not useful. Impairment due to fatigue, illness, or concussion are not detectable with a drug test. DRUID tests for impairment, regardless of cause. It offers, in real time, performance scores relative to the ability to safely operate a vehicle. It is calibrated against the Standard Field Sobriety Test. It ensures individual, workplace and public safety.
How It Works
The accuracy and sensitivity of the DRUID app was confirmed by extensive research at Johns Hopkins Medical School, funded by a grant from the U.S. National Institute for Health. The app was initially developed to be used as a tool to assess whether an individual possessed the minimum cognitive and motor capabilities required to drive a vehicle. These are:
- Reaction times
- Performance of tasks while distracted
To test these capabilities, DRUID requires users to take a test comprised of four separate tasks.
Complements Existing Workplace Safety Initiatives
Marijuana, opioids, prescription drugs, alcohol, fatigue, illness, injury are among the many reasons why employees are not fit for duty. Employers can no longer rely exclusively on enforcing a drug-free policy, particularly in view of the growing decriminalization and legalization of marijuana. Tests for detecting the bodily presence of a compromising substance are cumbersome, expensive and time-consuming. Most of all, however, they do not necessarily indicate impairment. DRUID is a fast, accurate, portable, proven, and inexpensive means to detect cognitive and motor impairment. Employees failing a DRUID test – no matter the cause – can, at management’s option, be monitored more closely, counseled, required to submit to further testing, or taken off the job, all before an accident occurs, and without infringing their legal rights.
